Microsoft is rebranding its Office Insider program as the Microsoft 365 Insider program. The name change is consistent with the recent rebranding of Microsoft’s all-in-one Office app to Microsoft 365 across all platforms.

There’s no change for current members of the Office Insider program, and updates will continue to roll out to the Current Channel (Preview) and Beta Channel. Joining the Microsoft 365 Insider Program remains free and you can find instructions on how to get started on this page.

The main change that comes with the rebranded program is Microsoft’s communication about new Microsoft 365 updates. “You may have noticed that we’ve been publishing blog posts about offerings beyond the traditional Office apps. We will continue to expand our blog coverage of features, apps, and services under the Microsoft 365 umbrella moving forward,” the company explained.

Microsoft isn’t completely retiring the Office brand yet: The company continues to sell perpetual versions of its Office apps with Office 2021 and Office LTSC. However, the Office brand is being de-emphasized as Microsoft 365, which encompasses the traditional Office apps plus OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, and other productivity apps takes the front seat.

As you may have noticed, Microsoft’s new Microsoft 365 app has started replacing the existing Office app on Windows, iOS, and Android this month. The new Microsoft 365 app still provides access to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint all in one app, as well as PDF scanning and other productivity features. The Microsoft 365 app is still free to use, though you’ll need a Microsoft 365 subscription to unlock some of its features.
